Paramahamsa, acclaimed cinematographer has been appointed as the head of the Tamil Nadu Government MGR. Film and Television Institute in Chennai. The appointment comes a little over a month after actor-turned-politician Vijay assumed office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Manoj, who has worked on several blockbuster films including Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, Nanban, Beast, and Leo, shares a professional association with Vijay. This new position will add another feather in Manoj Paramahamsa's hat. He is currently awaiting the release of Gautham Vasudev Menon's Dhruva Natchathiram.

Cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa Lands Key Government Appointment Under CM Vijay

The appointment holds special significance for Manoj, who is an alumnus of the MGR Film and Television Institute. He received his early training in cinematography at the institution before entering the film industry. He began his career as an assistant to cinematographer S. Saravanan, working on films including Pammal K. Sambandam, Priyamana Thozhi, Madhurey, Thirupaachi, and Thirupathi. He later made his mark independently with Eeram (2009).

Manoj is recognised for his work in films such as Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, Nanban, Enai Noki Paayum Thota. Over the years, he has built a reputation as one of the most sought-after cinematographers in South Indian cinema. Following his breakthrough, Manoj expanded his work across multiple film industries. His credits include Nadunisi Naaygal, Sillu Karuppatti, Radhe Shyam, Prince, and Guntur Kaaram, They Call Him OG. He also ventured into production with Poovarasam Peepee and later backed Sillu Karuppatti and Minmini.

Manoj Paramahamsa shares admiration for Vijay

Taking to social media, the popular cinematographer shared a heartfelt note for Vijay. Recalling an incident during the shoot of Leo, he said that after Vijay presented medals to 10th and 12th standard students, he had remarked that students would study even harder the following year in hopes of receiving medals from him. Vijay had responded that such a gesture was not easy and came with great responsibility.

The cinematographer then wrote about how Vijay soon went on to launch the TVK party and took up the responsibility of guiding the youth of Tamil Nadu. He praised Vijay for stepping forward as a leader with a larger vision, mentioning the care and commitment he has shown toward the future of young people. Concluding his note, he expressed that while they would greatly miss Vijay in cinema, they were proud of what he had achieved and the path he had chosen. Vijay's final film in cinema is Jana Nayagan.
