Her family confirmed the news, with her granddaughter sharing a note stating that the legendary singer passed away peacefully. Following the announcement of her demise, tributes have poured in from across the film industry with several celebrities mourning the loss of the legendary vocalist. S Janaki, saying that carrying the legendary singer's name in one of her most special films will always remain one of the greatest honours of her life. She mentioned that knowing Janaki Amma and receiving her love was something she would cherish forever. Along with emoji of a dove and a broken heart, she posted

S Janaki made a memorable cameo in the romantic drama '96, in which, Trisha's character in the film, Janaki Devi, popularly known as Jaanu, was named after the legendary singer. The character is portrayed as a devoted admirer of S Janaki who sings only her songs, making the connection meaningful. Directed by Prem Kumar and starring Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha the singer's appearance became a special moment for fans, as the four-minute deleted scene marked her final appearance in front of a film camera.
In the much-loved sequence, Ram (Vijay Sethupathi) and Jaanu, while taking a late-night walk in Chennai, stop outside S Janaki's home to click a picture. The singer unexpectedly arrives, invites them inside, and shares a warm conversation with them. She also encourages Jaanu to explore different styles of music instead of limiting herself to a single artist.
