After
receiving the Padma Shri in 1998, Malayalam superstar Mammootty has now been conferred with the third-highest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan, this year. The actor and his family, including his wife Sulfath, daughter Surumi, and son, actor Dulquer Salmaan, all came with him to Delhi at the Rashtrapati Bhavan to receive the honour from President Droupadi Murmu. It was a proud moment for the family as they watched the Bramayugam actor walk across the stately home of the President to receive the Padma Bhushan as part of the second phase of the Civil Investiture Ceremony for the Padma Awards 2026.

The actor received the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to the arts from the state of Kerala. Son
Dulquer was seen cheering on his father from the audience. Mammootty wore a classic beige bandhgala and also sported a white handkerchief in the front. The South cinema legend Mammootty greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi with folded hands before going ahead to receive the Padma Bhushan from President Murmu.
The Malayalam actor and his family were spotted arriving in the nation's capital earlier in the day, much to the delight of his fans. Other Indian celebrities such as Tamil actor R Madhavan and Bollywood singer Alka Yagnik are also set to be honoured by the Indian government. Film and TV actor Satish Shah will be receiving his Padma Shri posthumously, as his cousin Arvind Mamania will be accepting on behalf of the late actor.
In his five-decade career, Mammootty has worked not only in the Malayalam industry but also in the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi industries. He has more than 400 films under his belt across all genres. The veteran actor has picked up three National Film Awards, eleven Kerala State Film Awards, fifteen Filmfare Awards, and eleven Kerala Film Critics Awards for his work.

Earlier this year, the veteran actor appeared in the thriller
Patriot with good friend and fellow Malayalam star Mohanlal and had a cameo in
Chatha Pacha as Bullet" Walter Lopez. His next films are Adoor Gopalakrishnan's Padayaatra and
OM: Chapter 1. He is also a producer on the former. For director Rajkumar Periasamy's
OM, he will be co-starring with Dhanush and Sai Pallavi in the Tamil action thriller. He is also rumoured to star in the sequel to the 2007 film Bilal.
