It's
been three years since Samantha Ruth Prabhu was seen on the big screen. She appeared in two web series, The Family Man Season 2 and the prequel series Citadel: Honey Bunny for Amazon Prime Video. Both those shows made the South actress a global name. Now that she's back on the silver screen with BV Nandini Reddy's Maa Inti Bangaaram, Samantha is enjoying its success both at the box office and with audiences. In a recent interview, the actress stated that like male actors, female stars also deserved to be given time and effort to grow as a name with audiences.
Samantha states makers need to invest in actresses just like actors
While speaking to
Variety India,
Samantha shared that if the country needs more female superstars, the producers and directors should start investing time and money in them. The actress who has seen success with her female-led projects spoke about taking it one step at a time.
She said, "I’ve always said this: male superstars are not made in a day. Time and effort have gone into building larger-than-life male superstars." The
Kushi star felt that directors worked hard to develop god-like status for the male actors and it has taken time and she hoped that female stars would be treated the same as well. Offering a solution, Samantha stated, "I feel that effort and time is not given to female stars. If directors and producers put that effort into building an actress into a superstar, it will be possible." The sequel to
Maa Inti Bangaaram has already been announced following its success.
What is Maa Inti Bangaaram about?
The
Telugu film is co-produced by Samantha, husband Raj Nidimoru and Himank Reddy Duvvuru. Samantha plays a former undercover agent who is forced to revert back to her old life after her family is threatened. Co-starring Gulshan Devaiah and Diganth Manchale,
Maa Inti Bangaaram is inspired by Rajinikanth's 1995 film
Baashha.
The Samantha starrer had a fantastic start with Rs 4.85 crore on day one. Since its release on June 19, when it went up against the Bollywood film
Cocktail 2 and the Hollywood animated sequel
Toy Story 5, the film has crossed Rs 50 nett in India and grossed over Rs 80 crore worldwide. It has become Samantha's biggest solo film so far in Telugu. Producer Raj Nidimoru recently shared that the same team will come back for the sequel, which is already in development.
