French
fans cannot get enough of SS Rajamouli. The Telugu director SS Rajamouli is showcasing the Baahubali films, Eega, Maryada Ramanna and the Oscar-winning RRR in the cities of Paris, Lyon and Neuchâtel. Rajamouli is currently hard at work on his next Varanasi, which is slated to be released in April 2027 but has taken time out for this special retrospective of his work for one week. Additionally, the filmmaker was honoured with a plaque at the legendary Institut Lumière, which was erected for the fathers of cinema, Auguste and Louis Lumière.
Rajamouli humbled with honour from Lumiere Museum
The Indian filmmaker Rajamouli is making a name for himself across France. First, a seat with his name was reserved at the cinema hall named after the great Henri Langlois. The legendary director Costa Gavras also came to watch Rajamouli's films. Now, his name is etched up on the wall with a plaque alongside filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Quentin Tarantino, and Francis Ford Coppola.
Sharing the pics on social media,
Rajamouli thanked the director of the Institut Lumière and the Cannes Film Festival Thierry Frémaux for presenting him with his plaque and introducing him. The emotional filmmaker shared that he was surprised with the honour as Frémaux walked him through the very street where cinema was born. He wrote about the memory of a lifetime, "I don’t even know what to say for the honour of having my name permanently placed on the Mur des Cinéastes, along with the greats. Only gratitude. Deeply, deeply humbled."
Rajamouli on Varanasi
Last month, while attending the Annecy Film Festival, the director told Variety that
Varanasi's big spectacle action sequences had been filmed and he wanted to finish off the smaller, interconnecting scenes by October 2026. On April 7, 2027, the eagerly awaited film starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Prakash Raj will be released. It is the first Indian film to be shot for IMAX.
Rajamouli has written the screenplay of the film but the story has been penned by Rajamouli's father V Vijayendra Prasad and SS Kanchi. His cousin, MM Keeravani, who won the Oscar for
RRR's Naatu Naatu, will be composing the score. Star Priyanka Chopra had recently shared the Telugu film will be dubbed in 200 languages. With a reported budget of around Rs 1,400 crore,
Varanasi is one of the most expensive Indian films made.
