Anthropic has launched a new AI-powered research workbench -- Claude Science -- to help scientists carry out complex research faster and more efficiently. The AI startup says the platform brings together the tools researchers use every day into a single workspace, them to analyse scientific papers, process data, create charts, write research reports and manage large computing tasks without constantly switching between different software.According to Anthropic, scientists often spend a lot of time moving between research databases, coding tools, notebooks and high-performance computers. Claude Science aims to simplify this process by bringing everything into one application. The AI assistant can search scientific literature, perform multi-step
analysis, generate figures, write manuscripts and even explain how every result was created, making the research easier to verify and reproduce. One of the biggest features of Claude Science is that it keeps a complete record of every step taken during the research process. If it creates a graph or visualisation, it also provides the code, computing environment and explanation behind it. Scientists can simply ask the AI to make changes, such as modifying labels or changing graph scales, and it automatically updates the underlying code. The platform can also manage demanding computing tasks. Instead of manually setting up jobs on powerful servers or research clusters, Claude Science prepares the workflow, asks for permission before using additional computing resources and monitors the entire process. Anthropic says this allows researchers to focus more on science instead of technical setup. It comes with more than 60 built-in skills covering areas such as genomics, proteomics, structural biology, chemistry and drug discovery. The feature can also connect with popular scientific databases, existing laboratory tools and custom research pipelines, allowing scientists to continue using the software they already trust.According to the company several researchers have already tested Claude Science during its beta phase. Scientists have used it for tasks including protein structure prediction, CRISPR research, single-cell RNA sequencing and cancer studies. Some researchers claimed the AI reduced work that previously took months or even years to complete. The company says that Claude Science is currently available in beta for Claude Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise users on macOS and Linux. Anthropic has also announced a new AI for Science programme, offering selected research projects up to $30,000 in Claude credits along with additional cloud computing support to encourage scientific innovation.
