DC Studios is reportedly closing in on another major addition to its expanding cinematic universe. Actor Jimmy Tatro is in talks to portray Gorilla Grodd in the upcoming live-action series DC Crime according to Deadline. While the project has not yet received an official greenlight, the report suggests the series is actively moving forward behind the scenes. The show is expected to take an unconventional approach to superhero storytelling. Described as a true-crime-style mockumentary, DC Crime will reportedly follow Jimmy Olsen as he investigates some of the DC Universe's most notorious villains. Skyler Gisondo, who plays Jimmy Olsen in James Gunn's Superman, is expected to return in the role as the show's host. The first season will reportedly spotlight
Gorilla Grodd, the telepathic, hyper-intelligent ape who has long been one of The Flash's greatest enemies. Introduced inDC Comics in 1959, Grodd possesses extraordinary psychic abilities and an ambition to dominate both humans and apes, leading to repeated clashes with the Scarlet Speedster.
If the deal is finalised, it remains unclear whether Tatro will only lend his voice to the character or perform the role through motion-capture technology alongside CGI.The series comes from American Vandal creators Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, who are attached as writers, executive producers, and showrunners. DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran are also executive producing, with Warner Bros. Television producing the project.Tatro is best known for his performances in American Vandal, The Real Bros of Simi Valley, Modern Family, and Home Economics. He was most recently seen in Scream 7.The reported spinoff is one of several television projects currently in development as DC Studios builds its interconnected universe. Skyler Gisondo is also expected to return as Jimmy Olsen in 2027's Man of Tomorrow, making it possible for the upcoming Superman sequel to set up the events of DC Crime.Beyond the Jimmy Olsen project, DC Studios is also developing several high-profile series, including a Mister Terrific spinoff for Edi Gathegi, the Wonder Woman prequel Paradise Lost, Booster Gold, and Waller, which will see Viola Davis reprise her role as Amanda Waller. Together, these projects continue to shape James Gunn and Peter Safran's long-term vision for the DC Universe.Meanwhile, DC Studios latest outing Supergirl with Milly Alcock in the lead role has struggled to make an impact at the global box office. The DCU film debuted with an estimated $38 million in North America and around $68 million worldwide against a reported production budget of $170 million, excluding marketing costs. Its theatrical run worsened after suffering a steep 77 per cent drop in its second weekend, collecting just $8.6 million domestically for a two-week North American total of roughly $58 million.
