Singh has spoken out against the police action on students protesting the alleged NEET paper leak, calling the visuals from the recent demonstrations shocking. In an exclusive conversation with Times Now's Swati Joshi, the singer said he fully supports every citizen's democratic right to raise questions and protest peacefully. Referring to the lathi charge during the Chalo Sansad march at Jantar Mantar on July 20, Mika expressed concern over the treatment of young students, particularly female protesters. While acknowledging that authorities may have security concerns, he maintained that the use of force against students was unjustified and sent the wrong message.

Mika Singh says peaceful protest is every citizen's right

Speaking exclusively to Times Now, Mika Singh said, "Paanch chhe din se main dekh raha hoon ye chal raha tha protest, kaafi dino se chal raha tha. I am sure. Aur India mein har ek nagrik ko apna paksh rakhne ka adhikar hai. Apna, you know, ek question rakhne ka adhikar hai. Sarkar ke saath bhi, hamare saath bhi kai baar log poochte hain. To unko ek haq diya jaata hai ki yes."(Translation: I have been following the protests for several days and believe every Indian citizen has the democratic right to express their views and question those in authority. People ask questions from us too.)

He further added, "(Protest) Bahut dino se chal raha tha, aur bahut hi peacefully ye protest chal raha tha. Lekin jo kal-parson maine dekha, mera bilkul hi hosh ud gaya aur bahut hi matlab kharab laga ki yaar jo bachche hain bechare, jo wahan pe aaye hain, innocent students hain jinhone apna future abhi tay karna hai, apna future abhi dekhna hai. Aur unko hum itni bure tareeke ke saath treat kar rahe hain, maar rahe hain."(Translation: The protests had remained peaceful for days, but the recent police action left me shocked as innocent students trying to secure their future were subjected to violence.)

Mika Singh also expressed particular concern over the treatment of female protesters. He said, "Aur pehle to maine dekha tha kuch bechare ladke the jinko bahut unhone peeta. Par jab girls ko peeta ja raha hai, woh bahut wrong hai. Main samajh sakta hoon ki ho sakta hai uske andar sarkar ko ya police ko lagta hai ki ye jo students hain, kuch nakli aaye honge. Kai baar hota bhi hai. Students ko lagta hai police bhi nakli aayi hogi. Aisa hota bhi hai."(Translation: I saw young boys and even girls getting hit. I understand the authorities may suspect outsiders among the protesters, but that cannot justify violence against students, especially young women.)Continuing his remarks, he said, "But agar saamne ladki khadi hai, ek taraf hum, you know, poora awaaz utha rahe hain ki humein ladkiyon ko safety chahiye. Hum ladkiyon ko safe rakhna chahiye. Unke liye kuch karna chahiye. Camera lag rahe hain, security badh rahi hai, har ek state mein bahut kuch ho raha hai. Lekin jab hum hi maar rahe hain, to woh galat hai."(Translation: How society can advocate women's safety while simultaneously using force against female protesters? This is wrong)The singer stressed that the nature of the protest should not determine whether protesters deserve humane treatment. He said, "Doesn't matter unki awaaz kya hai. Woh sahi hai, galat hai, woh baad mein dekha jaayega. At the end woh girls hain aur kheench-kheench ke maar rahe hain. Aur uske baad woh smile kar rahe hain. Woh bahut galat hai."(Translation: The validity of the students' demands can be debated later, but physically dragging and beating women and then smiling is unacceptable.)

Drawing a comparison, Mika questioned why students were allegedly being treated like hardened criminals. He stated, "Humein yahi nahi samajh aa raha ki agar koi rapist hota hai, koi criminal hota hai, koi gangster hota hai, koi fraud hota hai, koi chor hota hai. Jab chor chori mein pakda jaata hai, hum kitne bure tareeke se usko maarte hain kyunki woh ek chor hai."(Translation: The society reserves such harsh treatment for criminals like rapists and gangsters. So, its difficult to understand why students were being handled similarly.)He was of the opinion that if innocent students are treated the same way as criminals, it becomes impossible to distinguish right from wrong, and that such use of force is unacceptable.Before Mika, several celebrities including Shabana Azmi, Sonakshi Sinha, Naseeruddin Shah, Hrithik Roshan, Kunickaa Sadanand and Ishaan Khatter have spoken out in favour of the students and Sonam Wangchuk.
