rom-com Cocktail 2 will not cross Rs 100 crore in its first week, but the Hindi feature starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna will likely hit that number on its second weekend. Directed by Homi Adajania, who also directed the 2012 film, Cocktail 2 was released in theatres on June 19 and earned Rs 5 crore on its sixth day. It held its own against Toy Story 5, the Telugu film Maa Inti Bangaram and even Imtiaz Ali's Main Vaapas Aaunga. However, this weekend will face competition from the Akshay Kumar comedy Welcome to the Jungle and DC Studios' Supergirl.

According to early estimates from Sacnilk, Cocktail 2 earned Rs 5 crore on day 6 across 9,745 shows. The total nett collections in India now stand at Rs 69.35 crore. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, after the crucial Monday test, the number rose on the film's first Tuesday thanks to the discounted ticket offer. But the first Wednesday has seen another hit and the film will definitely be impacted with the release of the multistarrer comedy Welcome to the Jungle, which is the third film in the comedy franchise.

What is the sequel Cocktail 2 about?

Filmed abroad in Sicily, Italy, Cocktail 2 begins with childhood sweethearts Kunal, played by Shahid, and Diya, played by Rashmika, who go for a holiday ahead of the impending wedding. There, in sunny Italy, Diya finds her old college friend Alisha, played by Kriti. However, with the couple about to finally tie the knot after 16 long years, will the entrance of Ally create cold feet? The film explores certain doubts that crop up.

The rom-com is co-written by Pyaar Ka Punchnama filmmaker Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain. The ensemble cast of Cocktail 2 features Tiku Talsania, Mark Bennington, Kannan Arunachalam, Suparna Marwah and Neelu Kohli. Pritam scores the music to this spiritual sequel with Amitabh Bhattacharya providing the lyrics.
