Snap has officially entered the consumer augmented reality race with the launch of its first AR smart glasses, called Specs, the new wearable was announced during the Augmented World Expo 2026 and aims to bring AR experiences closer to everyday users. of the biggest highlights is the built-in AR display system powered by the company's proprietary liquid crystal on silicon technology. The tech giant claims the glasses offer a 51-degree field of view and can display up to 16 million colours. When working, the display is said to resemble a 24-inch desktop monitor floating in front of the user. For entertainment, it can simulate a massive 115-inch home theatre screen positioned around 10 feet away.The brand also equips the Specs with electrochromic lenses that automatically adjust tint levels based on lighting conditions. According to the company, the transition takes roughly 10 seconds when moving between darker and brighter environments.Beyond displays, the glasses include navigation overlays, space-measuring tools and an AI-powered voice assistant capable of responding to questions based on what users see around them. Wearers can also stream content directly through the device.For privacy, the world-facing camera includes a dedicated LED indicator that lights up whenever recording is active.With AI, augmented reality and wearable computing increasingly converging, Snap's latest Specs represent another step toward a future where digital information blends directly into the real world.Snap Specs Price And Availability The new Specs smart glasses are currently available for pre-order in select markets. The brand has priced them at $2,195 (roughly Rs 2.07 lakh), while interested buyers need to place a refundable deposit of $200. According to the company, shipments are expected to begin later this fall in the United States, the United Kingdom and France. There is currently no word on India's availability.
