After regaling audience as Chuni Goswami in Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan, actor Amartya Ray will now be seen in his mother – acclaimed actor Chaiti Ghoshal’s directorial debut – Nevermind. Amartya will be seen in, what seems to be a chamber piece, alongside National Award winning actress Rituparna Sengupta. Amartya, who calls the film “special” for multiple reasons, including the fact that his mother is sitting on the director’s chair for the first time, says that Nevermind is a “film for the modern Bengali audience.”In an exclusive interaction with Zoom, Amartya has now opened up on collaborating with both Rituparna and his mother Chaiti Ghoshal, calling the former a “charming” personality. Opening up on sharing screen with Rituparna Sengupta, Amartya said,
“Working with Rituparna Sengupta was sort of a privilege.” According to the actor, in Maidaan he got to work with “another big personality” in Ajay Devgn, and something similar happened in Nevermind.
“The only difference being Ritu di has known me from a long time back - almost as a kid,” he revealed, adding, “Everybody knows Rituparna's personality is too charming - she made things very easy between us. As a young actor I could come with my ideas and thoughts and she too reacted and I did not feel intimidated by her presence at all. It was a very collaborative set and everyone brought their own ideas and something very organic bloomed.”Speaking about working under the direction of Chaiti Ghoshal, Amartya said, was “difficult,” but not in the traditional sense. He elaborated, “Working with my mother was difficult - as a son and an actor - but not on the sets. I was also part of the directorial and writing team, so my collaboration has been long and very integrated in it. I have lived the character for a very long time.” Opening up on why Chaiti cast him in her directorial and not someone else, Amartya went on to add, “I have studied direction, worked in Maidaan. She cast me not as her son, but because - as she has herself said, she felt in Bengal if anyone else made this film, they would have cast me as well. What was easy was the communication in between us was a bit faster. We understood each other easily and conveyed each other’s ideas well. This experience of working with my mother will remain all my life.”Nevermind, according to Amartya, which is being produced and presented by Rituparna Sengputa, is a film about one day in the life of Trina Lahiri (Rituparna Sengupta), a woman from UK, who has come back to Kolkata in search for something. That search leads her to bar in the iconic Park Street of Kolkata and the bar is called Nevermind, where she meets an anglo-Indian bar singer Jude Sebastian. As the night rolls on, Nevermind becomes the central milieu where multiple truths unfurl and vulnerabilities start coming out. According to Amartya, Nevermind is basically a story of chance encounter between Trina and Jude and whether one night and one encounter can change someone's life.Ask him whether he is still in contact withAjay Devgn post Maidaan and Amartya reveals he has sent the trailer and poster of the film to the actor as well as director Amit Ravindernath, who has wished Amartya well for his latest endeavour./images/ppid_a911dc6a-image-178307158236950016.webp)
