Main Vaapas Aaunga collected Rs 5.5 crore during its opening weekend, but its second weekend witnessed a massive jump, earning around Rs 12 crore. The impressive increase has taken the film’s total net collection to Rs 24.25 crore in two weeks. This is the kind of resurgence Bollywood has not seen in a while, especially for a film not filled with action sequences.
Shekhar Kapur recently took to X to applaud the film’s success and its unconventional box office journey. Sharing his thoughts, Kapur wrote, “Thank you Imtiaz Ali. With your film Main Wapaas Aaunga, you busted the myth that the first week box office defines the future of your film." He added that Imtiaz and his film proved what counts is a great story well told and respect for the audiences.
Imtiaz Ali responded to the praise with humility. The filmmaker shared a screenshot of Kapur’s post on his Instagram Story and expressed gratitude for the encouragement. Replying to the veteran director, Imtiaz thanked him and, “I wish I could take credit for it; the fact is I am just flowing in this river.”Take a look:
