Hollywood actor Ian McKellen recently attended a film festival in Rome. The actor showed an advance footage of his special appearance in the Russo brothers' upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday. The superhero film, directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, is scheduled for a big-screen release in December this year. At the event, Ian opened up about his experience of shooting for the Marvel film. He will be seen reprising the role of Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto in the movie. While sharing his experience, the 87-year-old revealed why he shouted 'Mar-a-Lago' on set.

Why Ian McKellen shouted 'Mar-a-Lago' on Avengers Doomsday set

Speaking at a film festival in Rome, Ian recalled the Russo brothers got him to a point to destroy New Jersey for a scene in Avengers: Doomsday. According to The Guardian, the veteran actor got up from his seat to re-enact the scene and shared that the Russo brothers told him to look furious while filming the scene.

"Make it look as if you hate what you’re destroying. So I stood there and I shouted: Mar-a-Lago," he recalled. For the unversed, Mar-a-Lago is a resort owned by the US President Donald Trump since 1985. It is situated in Palm Beach, Florida. As per Variety, the political figure would visit this property to hold meetings with international leaders during his presidencies.

Back in 2017 during Donald Trump's first presidency, the Hollywood actor has criticised the political leader for failing to protect LGBTQ+ rights. Speaking to Variety at that time, Ian had said, "It’s appalling and quite unnecessary and very un-American. The gay rights movement began in America. It began in San Francisco, it began in Stonewall, the city where Donald Trump was born and thrived."The actor had even expressed that he can't follow the US President. He even admitted that he doesn't always understand what the politician says. And when he does understand, the actor has to later admit that he got it wrong because Donald Trump changes his mind about he said. "He’s a very bad communicator, at least to me. Get more straightforward, Donald. And then we can take you seriously," he said.
