Charan’s blockbuster Peddi has got a re-edited theatrical version this week, introducing nearly six minutes of additional footage. The new scenes featuring Janhvi Kapoor and veteran actor Jagapathi Babu, with content that adds value to the storyline and also shows more about Rao Ramesh’s political character. The additions have be made as a response to earlier criticism about heroine’s role in the film, many felt underdeveloped in the original cut. The revised version began rolling out in theatres from Thursday (June 18). Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, the film has earned Rs 400 crore at the box office.

The makers of Ram Charan’s Peddi have shared revised cut that includes close to six minutes of additional footage. The updated version, released this week. According to the production team, the theatrical cut now features approximately 5 minutes and 56 seconds of new material. A portion of the added scenes focuses on Janhvi Kapoor’s character, Achiyamma. The new footage will show her emotional arc and provide a clarity to her relationship within the story. Achiyamma, who is the daughter of a local politician played by Rao Ramesh, is shown balancing both her romantic journey and her efforts connected to her father’s political ambitions. The additions come in response to earlier feedback where many felt she was hypersexualised.

The re-edited version also includes a Pelli Choopulu-style sequence, a traditional bride-viewing scenario, which plays out as light comedy in the first half before takes up emotional scene later. A new market scene placed before the Chikiri song is said to give the romance a more grounded build-up.

Backlash over Janhvi Kapoor Character

Earlier cuts to Peddi followed controversy around scenes involving Janhvi Kapoor’s character, which were criticised by sections of the audience. Director Buchi Babu Sana had later apologised and confirmed that the portions were removed. This includes a scene in which Ram Charan’s character kisses her without consent, leaving her in tears.

Another sequence is said to feature goons attempting to undress the character. Alongside these moments, social media users have also raised concerns over repeated close-up shots and what they describe as weak character writing. On X (formerly Twitter), reactions have criticised the portrayal of women and the handling of intimate scenes, calling them dated and problematic.Despite the controversy, the film has crossed the Rs 400 crore mark worldwide within two weeks of release, making it the top-performing South Indian film of 2026 so far.
