Salman Khan's upcoming war drama Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace is back in the news after reports claimed earlier this week that the film's release had been delayed. The reason cited was pending certification issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). On July 4, the makers came out clean and issued a strong clarification, rejecting the speculation that had been intensifying by the day. Salman Khan Films released an official statement regarding the rumours. The production house said that reports that the film was facing a problem with the CBFC or that the film's certification was on hold were inaccurate and baseless.Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace is directed by Apoorva Lakhia, based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash. Salman Khan is playing
the character of Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu, who was martyred along with 19 soldiers of the 16 Bihar Regiment in the face-off between Indian and Chinese troops.
Makers statement
Reports this week sparked speculation over the upcoming war drama. It was claimed that the film's release had been delayed due to unresolved trouble with the CBFC. The makers’ strong statement said
Maatrubhumi has not yet been submitted to the censor board for certification, and any reports of delay at the CBFC are premature. The banner also urged social media users not to circulate unverified information and said all official announcements related to the film will only be made through the authorised communication channels of Salman Khan Films.
How did CBFC rumours start?
This clarification comes days after several reports suggested that the film may miss its expected August release as it was allegedly still awaiting censor clearance. The reports created a lot of buzz among Salman Khan fans, especially because the film had already gone through a lot of changes before its release. The makers have now confirmed that the certification process has not yet started. It is not known when the film will be sent to the CBFC, or if there will be any change in its release schedule.
Title change and release plans
The project was announced initially as Battle of Galwan and was slated to release on April 17, 2026. Later, the makers renamed the film as
Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, but a revised theatrical release date is still awaited.
Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace also stars Chitrangada Singh, Mukesh Rishi, and Ankur Bhatia, among others.
