just two days remaining until the release of CM Vijay's much-awaited final film, Jana Nayagan, director H. Vinoth has confirmed that the film is partly inspired by Nandamuri Balakrishna's 2023 Telugu blockbuster Bhagavanth Kesari. While speculation surrounding the remake had circulated for months, the makers remained silent until the film's release date was announced earlier this year. The trailer increased comparisons between the two films. H Vinoth has now revealed why Thalapathy Vijay was keen to adapt the story and what ultimately convinced him to direct the remake.

H Vinoth Opens Up on Why CM Vijay Chose Bhagavanth Kesari For His Final Film

Speaking to Galatta Plus, H Vinoth revealed that he was initially reluctant to direct another remake after Nerkonda Paarvai (2019), the official Tamil adaptation of Pink (2016). However, he said Thalapathy Vijay encouraged him to reconsider because of the film's strong message on women's empowerment. On being asked why Vijay wanted him to remake the film, H Vinoth said "See, basically Vijay sir is committed to women empowerment. Ever since his sister died, he has always feels inclined with the ideas that women and children should be strong.. I saw the same conviction in Ajith sir when we worked on the Pink remake. I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to work on Vijay sir’s last film".

Adding to it he said "If you see his previous film Bigil, it was based on this, even the term Singapen was towards women, and now it is used by the government also. I asked him why he wanted to work on this remake he said I liked how the hero keeps fighting and there is a women empowerment angle to it." For the unversed Vijay had a younger sister, Vidhya, who passed away in 1984 at the age of two following an illness.

Jana Nayagan Ready For Release

Vinoth also clarified the extent to which Jana Nayagan draws fromBhagavanth Kesari. When probed about how much of the film is inspired by the Telugu blockbuster, he said, "Jana Nayagan is about 50 per cent inspired by Bhagavanth Kesari. While the first half has 60 per cent similarity, the second half has only 20 per cent."

After a seven-month delay, Jana Nayagan recently completed the certification process and received an A certificate after the CBFC suggested 12 cuts and modifications. The uncut version will be released in the UK. The film, scheduled to open in cinemas on July 23, stars Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani.Released in 2023, Bhagavanth Kesari, directed by Anil Ravipudi, starred Nandamuri Balakrishna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sreeleela and Arjun Rampal. The film went on to win the Best Feature Film in Telugu award at the 71st National Film Awards.
