She began by expressing how a person never leaves anyone; they stay with their memories that become “faithful companions”. The memories returns the smile, glance, and the words of the person that ensure that they will never be forgotten, she said. “Ours was not merely a life lived together, but a life fulfilled,” wrote Saira Banu in her emotional note. Dilip Kumar was the steadfast anchor of her life. She felt fortunate enough to be his partner, and the immeasurable honour of receiving his love.

She wrote how he left not only her but also people, fans, and admirers who cherished every moment of him, who “were left with an emptiness words can never quite describe,” she added. In her words,Dilip Kumar is remembered as one of the biggest stars who lit up the silver screen. To his close ones, he was more than that, as he remained a cherished friend, a philanthropist and overall a compassionate human being. “And that is a blessing for which my soul shall remain grateful until we meet again,” she concluded.

For the unversed, Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar’s wedding on October 11, 1966, remained one of Bollywood’s most adored marriages. The Mughal-e-Azam actor reportedly fell in love with her at her 22nd Birthday party. The fairytale wedding continued 55 years before his passing as both remained as the backbone for each other in both personal and professional spaces. They shared screen in Gopi (1970), Sagina Mahato (1970), Sagina (1974, Bairaag (1976) and Duniya (1984).
