Johar is currently on cloud nine after Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned his debut film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, during his speech in Jakarta, Indonesia. The filmmaker thanked Modi for the reference and said he was ‘elated and honoured’. Johar shared a note on his Instagram story along with a video clip in which PM Narendra Modi spoke about the popularity of Indian cinema in Indonesia and referred to the title track of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Rani Mukerji and Salman Khan in key roles.
Karan Johar Reacts To Modi’s Speech In Jakarta
Karan Johar shared a video of PM Modi’s address in Jakarta on his Instagram story and thanked Modi for a special mention to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in his speech. For the unversed, Modi referred to the title track of the Karan Johar film while speaking about the ties between India and Indonesia. In his speech, the PM said that when India and Indonesia move forward together, much more than ‘kuch kuch (something something)' happens.
Modi said, “Yahan Bharat ka gaana Kuch Kuch Hota Hai bahut lokpriya hai. Aaj maine is par kaha ki jab Bharat aur Indonesia saath mil kar chalte hai to 'kuch kuch' se badh kar bahut kuch hota hai.”
Overwhelmed by the beloved PM of India’s gesture, Karan Johar wrote, “Elated & honoured to have our esteemed Prime Minister @narendramodi ji speak about Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in Jakarta. There is indeed a language that transcends all its love. Thank you for embracing and making this song live forever!!!” (sic) For the unversed, Karan Johar is a great admirer of PM Narendra Modi’s vision to make India an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India).

Coming back to his debut film,
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, it was released in 1998 and went on to become the biggest hit of the year. KJo won his first ever Filmfare Award for Best Director for the film. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai also featured Farida Jalal, Anupam Kher, Reema Lagoo, Himani Shivpuri, Sana Saeed, Parzaan Dastur, Johny Lever and others in supporting roles. It was released on October 16, 1998 in theatres. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai won 10 Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress and many other honours.
