It's
a little over a month to go before the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in India. It is releasing on July 30, one day before the rest of the world, and fans are already going wild. Speculation that around five minutes of the film had been cut by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) spread like wildfire. Eventually, Sony Pictures India had to step in and issue a clarification about the final running time. Starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and Mark Ruffalo, Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.
Has Spider-Man: Brand New Day been censored in India?
On Reddit, a post inaccurately claimed that five minutes of the superhero film had been chopped off by the CBFC. The running time of Brand New Day is said to be 2 hours and 30 minutes, and an image showed the film's rating as UA 13+ with five minutes less. One user wondered, "What could have they POSSIBLY cut in a spider man movie..."
The news then spread to X (formerly Twitter), after which Sony Pictures India stepped in. They posted a statement online which read: "To address speculation circulating online: the film has not yet been submitted to the CBFC in India, and any reports regarding certification are inaccurate." They also shared that they would let fans know about any official information.
While the film will not be releasing
in IMAX,
Brand New Day will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. Advance tickets for
Brand New Day in SCREENX, an immersive 270-degree panoramic cinema format, are now on sale in India.
What is Spider-Man 4 about?
The fourth film in the Marvel and Sony co-production follows the events of
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). Peter Parker (Tom Holland) now fights crime full-time as Spider-Man. In the finale of the third film, he erased the memories of his friends MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon). Now, the lonely superhero protects New York City as a shocking new threat emerges and he himself sees his powers evolve. Sadie Sink is set to play a mysterious new character rumoured to be X-Men character Jean Grey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), while Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo all reprise their roles as the Punisher, Scorpion, and the Hulk, respectively.
Brand New Day is written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers and
Challengers' Justin Kuritzkes.
