Yagnik was conferred with the Padma Bhushan at a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, on June 23. President Droupadi Murmu presented the award to the veteran singer. Yagnik, due to health issues, has consciously limited her public appearances, and after a long time, she was seen attending the ceremony. At the Padma Awards event, Alka needed assistance in walking and also looked frail. A video from the ceremony went viral on social media, leaving her fans concerned. The 60-year-old shared a picture with the President of India on Instagram and assured well-wishers that she is ‘slowly finding my way back’.

Addressing her absence from public events and ceremonies,
Alka said she stayed away from the spotlight to due to her health concerns. “Many of you knew I am going through difficult health and through it all, your love, prayers, messages, and unwavering support have stayed with me every step of the way,” she wrote on Instagram. The veteran singer further added that she wanted to attend the Padma awards ceremony to honour the love that people have showered on her over the years. Calling the
Padma Bhushan honour ‘deeply humbling’, she added to the caption, “While my name may be on it, it belongs just as much to every listener who welcomed my voice into their lives, carried my songs through generations, and stood by me through both the highs and the challenges.”
Alka’s Instagram caption further read, “This moment feels especially meaningful because it marks not just a recognition of my work, but a reminder of the strength that comes from love, hope, and resilience. I am slowly finding my way back, and I wanted to be here today - not only for myself, but for each and every one of you who have been a part of this journey.” She thanked the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Government of India for honouring her with the Padma Bhushan. “I carry all of it with me,” she said, before signing off by writing, “Today, I didn’t just accept an award - I felt the love of millions who have been a part of my journey.”

Alka has been diagnosed with
sensorineural hearing loss, a rare hearing disorder triggered by a sudden viral attack in 2024. Due to this, she has been missing in action for two years.
