The
beloved residents of Far, Far Away are officially back. Universal Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for Shrek 5, marking the franchise's long-awaited return 17 years after Shrek Forever After hit theaters in 2010. The teaser reunites fans with Shrek, Fiona and Donkey while introducing a new generation of characters, including the grown-up children of the iconic ogre couple. Adding even more excitement to the project is the casting of Zendaya, who joins the star-studded voice lineup.
Shrek 5 Trailer Out
The newly released trailer begins with a classic storybook recap of the original
Shrek adventure, taking audiences back to the magical world that first captured hearts in 2001. However, Donkey quickly interrupts the narration, declaring that it's time for a makeover.
The teaser then showcases a slightly updated animation style as Shrek, Fiona and Donkey journey through Far, Far Away once again. Along the way, viewers are introduced to a variety of quirky new encounters, including a giant law-enforcement figure and a bizarre snowman parody clearly inspired by Disney's Olaf from
Frozen. Fans will also be delighted to see the return of Gingy, who delivers one of the trailer's most outrageous jokes. But the biggest surprise arrives in the final moments. Shrek, Fiona, their children and Donkey are all seen trapped inside a jail cell. As the group tries to process their predicament, Donkey amusingly breaks into renditions of
Baby Come Back and
Roxanne, much to Shrek's annoyance. The scene leaves viewers wondering how the family ended up behind bars and what kind of adventure awaits them in the full movie.Watch the trailer here:
