Good news for Indian passport holders: as of September 15, 2026, you can enter Thailand for tourism and stay for up to 30 days without a visa. This replaces previous schemes and makes short holidays much simpler. Just ensure your passport is valid and be prepared
to show immigration officials proof of sufficient funds (the recommendation is typically 20,000 baht per person) if requested. For stays longer than 30 days, you'll need to apply for the appropriate e-Visa in advance.
Long-Tail Boat or Speedboat?
The first choice you'll make is your ride. For an affordable and authentic experience, the traditional long-tail boat is your best bet. These wooden boats are slower, offering a classic, picturesque journey between islands. Group tours on long-tail boats can cost as little as 600-900 THB per person. Speedboats are faster, getting you to the islands in less time, but they come at a higher price, with group tours typically starting from 900-1,200 THB. If you're on a tight budget and want to soak in the scenery, the long-tail is the clear winner.

The most popular and budget-friendly day trip from Krabi is the '4 Islands Tour'. It's a fantastic introduction to the area, typically visiting Phra Nang Cave Beach, Chicken Island, Tup Island, and Poda Island. You'll get a mix of incredible beaches, a unique sandbar that appears at low tide connecting two islands, and great snorkelling spots. Another famous option is the Hong Islands tour, known for its stunning hidden lagoon. This tour is usually slightly more expensive, with long-tail options around 1,190 THB and speedboats at 1,390 THB, plus a higher park fee. For a first-timer on a budget, the 4 Islands tour offers the most variety and value.
The Art of Booking an Affordable Tour
You can book tours online in advance, but for the best prices, wait until you arrive in Ao Nang or Krabi Town. The streets are lined with small tour agencies, and their prices are often competitive and negotiable, especially if you're booking for a small group. Don't be shy about asking for a better price. Another great option is to head directly to the piers at Ao Nang or Ao Nam Mao and negotiate with a long-tail boat captain for a private charter. A private half-day tour can start from around 2,500 THB for the whole boat, which can be very economical for a group of four or more.
What's Included and What’s Not
Most group island-hopping tours are great value and typically include hotel pick-up and drop-off (in the Ao Nang area), a simple buffet-style lunch served on a beach, fresh fruit, bottled water, and the use of a life jacket and snorkel mask. However, there is one crucial cost that is almost never included in the advertised price: the National Park entrance fee. For the 4 Islands tour, this is 200 THB per adult and 100 THB per child, which you must pay in cash to your guide or a park ranger on the day of the tour. For the Hong Islands, the fee is 300 THB per adult. Always factor this extra cost into your budget.
Simple Tips for Extra Savings
To make your affordable trip even cheaper, pack a few of your own snacks and an extra bottle of water. While lunch is provided, having something to nibble on during the boat rides is always a good idea. Consider buying a reusable waterproof bag before your trip, as renting or buying one on the spot can be pricey. Finally, after your tour drops you back, skip the tourist-focused restaurants on the main beach road. Walk a few streets inland to find more authentic and wallet-friendly local eateries for dinner, where you can enjoy delicious Thai food for a fraction of the price.
