Known to many as 'Sadabahar', the name itself means 'always in bloom', and it lives up to it. Vinca is exceptionally hardy, handling both heat and humidity with ease. Its glossy green leaves provide a perfect backdrop for its simple, pinwheel-shaped flowers that come in shades of pink, white, and purple. This plant thrives in full sun but can also tolerate partial shade. It's a low-maintenance choice that requires moderate watering—let the topsoil dry out before watering again to prevent root issues. It’s a reliable source of colour that rarely disappoints.
The Colour Bomb: Zinnia
If you want an explosion of quick, vibrant colour, Zinnias are an excellent choice. These annuals are easy to grow from seed and come in nearly every colour imaginable. They love the heat of the Indian summer and perform exceptionally well in sunny spots. To keep them blooming profusely, provide them with well-draining soil and consistent watering at the base of the plant to keep the foliage dry. Deadheading, or removing spent flowers, will encourage the plant to produce more blooms, ensuring your balcony remains a riot of colour throughout the season.

Regardless of the plant variety, a few rules apply to balcony gardening in the August humidity. First, ensure every pot has drainage holes and that they are not blocked; waterlogged soil is the fastest way to kill a plant.
