Shah Rukh Khan as The Mentor
Shah Rukh Khan is reportedly taking on a complex, grey-shaded character in 'King'. Moving away from a conventional hero, sources suggest he will play a masterful, sleek assassin who acts as a mentor. This role is said to be inspired by the 1994 French
classic 'Léon: The Professional'. Initially, Khan's part was rumored to be an extended cameo, but it has since been developed into a full-fledged lead role. The film's first-look poster revealed SRK with a distinctive salt-and-pepper look, hinting at a mature and intense character. Reports also suggest the plot may span two timelines, with Khan portraying the character at different stages of his life. During a recent social media interaction, the actor confirmed the film is on track for its December 2026 release and mentioned he suffered a few injuries during the demanding shoot.
Suhana Khan as The Protégé
This film marks Suhana Khan’s theatrical debut after her appearance in the 2023 streaming film 'The Archies'. In 'King,' she will reportedly play the central protagonist, a young woman who comes under the protection and guidance of SRK's character after her family is lost. This sets her up not as a damsel in distress, but as an apprentice navigating a dangerous world under his tutelage. The role is expected to be action-packed, and it has been reported that Shah Rukh Khan himself has been personally involved in her training for the high-octane sequences. Her journey is central to the plot, making this a significant launchpad for her big-screen career.
The Powerhouse Directors
The project has seen a significant change behind the camera. Initially, acclaimed thriller director Sujoy Ghosh was set to direct the film. However, as the film's scale and scope expanded, Siddharth Anand, known for the blockbuster 'Pathaan,' took over as director. Anand was already involved as a producer and co-writer, and was slated to handle the action sequences. The transition was reportedly amicable, as the project evolved into a massive action entertainer perfectly aligned with Anand's signature style. Ghosh remains credited for the story and screenplay.
A Star-Studded Ensemble Cast
Beyond the father-daughter duo, 'King' boasts one of the most impressive ensemble casts in recent memory. Abhishek Bachchan is reportedly cast as the primary antagonist, a menacing villain. The film also marks reunions for SRK with several past co-stars. Deepika Padukone, his collaborator on 'Pathaan' and 'Jawan,' is set for a key role. Rani Mukerji is reported to have an extended and crucial cameo, possibly as Suhana's mother. The 'Ram Lakhan' duo, Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff, are also on board in significant roles. Rounding out the powerful cast are acclaimed actors like Jaideep Ahlawat, Arshad Warsi, and Saurabh Shukla, each bringing their unique talents to the ambitious project.
The Vision for an Action Spectacle
With a massive reported budget, 'King' is being mounted as a global action thriller. Principal photography has taken place in various international locations, including Warsaw, Gdańsk, and Cape Town, in addition to Mumbai. The action is described as sleek and raw, focusing on intense chase sequences rather than large-scale warfare. The collaboration between producer Gauri Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment and Siddharth Anand's Marflix Pictures promises a high-octane spectacle with a gripping storyline. The film has locked in a Christmas season release date, scheduled to hit theatres on December 24, 2026.
