The Final Registration Deadline
The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) has announced the final dates for this year's pilgrimage, and with it, a firm deadline for offline registration through designated bank branches. While the Yatra itself spans several weeks, the registration process
concludes much earlier to allow for logistical planning and security arrangements. The advance registration via bank branches is set to close, making it imperative for aspiring pilgrims to act immediately. This is not a soft deadline; once the window closes, securing a Yatra Permit through this channel becomes impossible. The process is handled on a first-come, first-served basis, and slots for specific dates and routes fill up quickly. Procrastinating could mean missing the opportunity for this year's pilgrimage altogether.
Mandatory Health and Age Requirements
The Amarnath Yatra is a physically demanding pilgrimage at high altitudes, and the SASB has strict guidelines to ensure the safety of all devotees. Registration is open only to individuals between the ages of 13 and 70. Additionally, women who are more than six weeks pregnant are not permitted to undertake the journey. The most crucial requirement is the Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC). This certificate must be issued by a doctor or medical institution specifically authorised by your state or UT government. The list of authorised doctors is available on the SASB's official website. A certificate from any other doctor will not be accepted. Ensure your CHC is dated after the officially specified date for this year's Yatra, as older certificates are invalid.
Your Document Checklist
To ensure a smooth registration process at the bank, you must have all your documents in order. Arriving unprepared can lead to delays and disappointment. Here is what you need to bring: 1. Prescribed Application Form: This must be filled out completely and accurately. The form is available for download on the official SASB website. 2. Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC): The original, valid CHC from an authorised doctor is non-negotiable. 3. Four Passport-Sized Photographs: These are needed for your application form and the Yatra Permit. Three photos are for the permit and one is for the application form. 4. Valid Identification: While your Aadhaar card is often preferred, carry a valid government-issued photo ID.
How to Find a Designated Bank
Registration is not available at all bank branches. The SASB has partnered with specific branches of Punjab National Bank, Jammu & Kashmir Bank, and Yes Bank across the country. The complete, state-wise list of designated bank branches is available on the official SASB website (www.shriamarnathjishrine.com). Do not assume your local branch can process the registration. Check the official list, find the nearest authorised branch, and confirm their working hours before you visit. This simple step can save you a significant amount of time and travel.
The Bank Registration Process
Once at the designated bank branch, the official will verify your documents. If everything is in order, you will be required to pay the registration fee. Upon successful payment and verification, the bank will issue you a Yatra Permit on the spot. This permit will specify the date and route (either the Pahalgam or Baltal route) for your pilgrimage. The bank will issue Yatra Permits on a first-come, first-served basis. The specific date allotted to you will depend on the availability of slots for that day. You cannot begin your Yatra on a day for which your permit is not valid. The Yatra Permit is a crucial document that you must carry with you at all times during the pilgrimage.
After Registration: Preparing for the Journey
Securing your Yatra Permit is a huge milestone, but it marks the beginning of your preparations. The journey to the Amarnath cave is arduous. Begin a regimen of physical fitness, such as walking for 4-5 kilometres daily, to build stamina. Plan for acclimatisation by arriving in Jammu or Srinagar a few days before your Yatra date. Pack appropriate warm clothing, waterproof gear, sturdy trekking shoes, and a basic medical kit. Remember, the permit gets you to the starting gate, but your preparation will see you through the journey.
