IMD's Latest Forecast Explained
The India Meteorological Department has warned of an active monsoon phase over western India for the next few days. This is primarily driven by a deep depression that moved inland from eastern India, which is now strengthening monsoon activity across
the central and western parts of the country. The forecast predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, particularly impacting Maharashtra and Gujarat through the end of July. Gujarat, which has already witnessed significant rainfall this season, is preparing for another intense spell. The IMD forecasts active monsoon conditions with heavy rainfall expected in several parts of the state. Some areas in north and central Gujarat have already experienced record-breaking downpours in the past week, leading to flooding and disruption. With the latest forecast, districts in South Gujarat and the Saurashtra region are on watch. Authorities are monitoring river levels and dam statuses, as persistent rain could exacerbate the flood situation in already-affected areas like Navsari and Valsad. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed teams in vulnerable districts of both Gujarat and Maharashtra as a precautionary measure.
