Paving the Way with Gold
Dubai is preparing to unveil a remarkable new tourist attraction: a 24-karat gold walkway. Billed as the first and longest of its kind in the world, the project is slated to open within the next two months, well before the December holiday rush. Rashid
Al Harmoudi, a senior director at the Dubai Gold District, confirmed the project is designed to give visitors the unique experience of walking along a literal golden path. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to cement Dubai’s status as a global hub for gold trading and a premier tourist destination. While full details on its exact length and the amount of gold used remain under wraps, the announcement has already generated significant buzz.
A New Jewel in the Gold District
The gold walkway is the latest enhancement to the Dubai Gold District in Deira, a massive hub launched in January 2026. This district was created to unify all aspects of the gold and jewellery trade, from wholesale and bullion trading to investment services and retail, into a single, comprehensive destination. The area already boasts over 1,000 retailers, featuring a mix of gold, jewellery, perfumes, and lifestyle products. The addition of the gold walkway is intended to be a signature attraction that elevates the visitor experience beyond pure commerce, turning a shopping trip into a memorable event.
A Magnet for Indian Travellers
Dubai has long been a favourite destination for Indian tourists, and the new gold walkway is expected to be a major draw. The connection is deepened by the cultural significance of gold in India for festivals, weddings, and investments. The announcement of the walkway notably coincided with a celebration of Joyalukkas Jewellery, a prominent brand with strong Indian roots, achieving a Guinness World Record for the heaviest pair of gold earrings, designed in a traditional Indian 'jhumka' style. This synergy highlights the district's appeal to Indian shoppers and brands. The presence of major Indian jewellers like Tanishq, Malabar Gold and Diamonds, and Kalyan Jewellers further solidifies the district as a key shopping destination for visitors from the subcontinent.
More Than Just a Walkway
This ambitious project is a key part of the district's rapid growth. Since the start of 2026, the area has seen a 20% increase in wholesale gold trading offices and a 15% rise in new shops selling jewellery and luxury watches. To accommodate this growth, expansion for more office and retail space is already underway. Beyond retail, the district is also focused on becoming a major industry hub, with plans for a large-scale gold and jewellery exhibition intended to be the biggest in the Middle East. This blend of tourist-facing spectacle and serious business ambition shows Dubai's integrated approach to dominating the global gold market.
