Confirm Your Eligibility Without Fail
Before you even begin the application, rigorously check the eligibility criteria outlined in the official notification. ISRO is strict about its requirements. For Scientist/Engineer 'SC' posts, this typically means a B.E./B.Tech degree with a minimum
of 65% marks or a CGPA of 6.84 on a 10-point scale. The age limit for most of these posts is usually 28 or 30 years, with relaxations for candidates from reserved categories. Some recruitments are based on GATE scores, requiring a valid score from the specified years, while others involve a written test. Ensure your specific engineering discipline matches the ones listed in the advertisement. Don't assume eligibility; verify every single detail against the official document to avoid disappointment.
Read the Official Notification Thoroughly
Every ISRO recruitment drive has a detailed notification document published on its official website, isro.gov.in. This document is your most important guide. It contains specifics on the number of vacancies, post codes, reservation details, selection process, and application dates. For instance, recent recruitment for Scientist/Engineer posts specified that selection would be based on GATE scores followed by a personal interview. The notification also clarifies crucial details, such as how the final merit list will be calculated—often a 50/50 weightage between GATE scores and the interview performance. Reading this document from start to finish ensures you understand every requirement and deadline.
Prepare Your Documents in Advance
The online application requires you to upload scanned copies of several documents. Having these ready in the correct format and size can save you from last-minute stress. Typically, you will need a recent passport-sized colour photograph with a light background and a scanned image of your signature on white paper. Both must be in .jpg or .jpeg format and within the specified size limits. Additionally, you will need your GATE scorecard in PDF format if applying through that channel. While you don't usually upload all educational certificates at the application stage, keep them handy for filling in details accurately. Candidates from reserved categories must ensure their certificates are valid as of the application's closing date.
Navigate the Online Portal with Care
Applications for ISRO jobs are accepted only through the official online portal. Start by registering with a valid and active email ID and mobile number, as all future communication, including your registration number, will be sent there. When filling out the form, be meticulous. Use the exact name and date of birth as they appear on your official documents like your 10th-grade mark sheet to avoid issues during document verification. There is no provision to edit the application after final submission, so reconfirm every detail before proceeding. If you make an error, the only option is to submit a fresh application before the deadline; the last one submitted will be considered final.
Handle Application Fees and Final Submission
After filling out the form, you will be redirected to a payment gateway to pay the application fee, if applicable. Note that all women candidates, as well as SC/ST/PwBD and Ex-servicemen candidates, are generally exempted from the fee. To avoid payment failures, which can happen due to high traffic near the deadline, complete the process early. If money is deducted but the status is not updated, wait for some time before attempting to pay again to avoid multiple charges. Once the payment is confirmed and the application is submitted, download a PDF copy of the final form and the payment receipt for your records.
Check for the No-Objection Certificate (NOC)
If you are currently employed with a Central/State Government department, Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), or an autonomous body, you are required to obtain a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer. While you may not need to submit it with the initial application, you must produce it at the time of the interview or skill test. You should apply for the ISRO post only after informing your current employer. This is a mandatory requirement that is often overlooked.
