A Glimmering Golden Path
In a city of superlatives, the latest project promises a unique experience for both residents and tourists. The Dubai Gold District has confirmed it is constructing the world's longest walkway made of 24-carat gold. This shimmering path will be located
in Deira, the historical heart of Dubai's gold trade. While the exact length and cost have not been publicly detailed, officials have stated it will be the first of its kind globally, offering visitors a chance to literally walk on gold. The project was first conceptualised in January 2026 as a 'Gold Street' to serve as the main attraction for the newly launched Dubai Gold District. Now, this vision is becoming a reality, with an expected opening within the next two months, well before the close of 2026.
The Heart of the City of Gold
The choice of location is deeply symbolic. The walkway is situated within the Dubai Gold District in Deira, an area that brings together over 1,000 retailers, wholesalers, and traders of gold, jewellery, and precious stones. This district is central to Dubai's identity as a global hub for the gold trade, and the new attraction is designed to amplify that reputation. According to Rashid Al Harmoudi, a senior director at the Dubai Gold District, the project aims to offer an exceptional experience that strengthens Dubai's position in both gold trading and tourism. The district has already seen significant growth in 2026, with a 20 percent increase in wholesale gold trading offices and a 15 percent rise in new retail stores.
More Than Just an Attraction
This gold-plated walkway is more than just a photo opportunity; it's a strategic move to blend commerce with tourism. The goal is to create a landmark destination that draws visitors beyond traditional jewellery buyers and immerses them in the city's glittering heritage. By creating a must-see attraction, the district hopes to encourage more foot traffic, benefiting the hundreds of businesses in the area. The project is part of a broader expansion plan for the district, which also includes a new exhibition intended to become the largest gold and jewellery trade event in the Middle East. This initiative reflects Dubai's ongoing strategy of using ambitious, record-breaking projects to continuously refresh its appeal to a global audience.
What Visitors Can Expect
For tourists planning a trip to Dubai, the gold walkway offers another compelling reason to visit, especially during the cooler winter months. It provides a modern attraction in one of the city's most historic areas. A visit can easily be combined with other quintessential Dubai experiences, such as exploring the traditional Gold Souk, crossing the Dubai Creek on a classic abra boat, or visiting the nearby spice and perfume markets. While the walkway itself will be the main draw, the surrounding district offers a deep dive into the craft and trade of precious metals. The announcement came as Dubai also celebrated two new Guinness World Records for the world's heaviest and largest pair of gold earrings, further cementing its 'City of Gold' nickname.
