Introducing the Amrit Bharat Express
Indian Railways has announced the regularisation of a special service into a new weekly Amrit Bharat Express, connecting Gorakhpur Junction and Delhi Junction. This move aims to provide a more convenient and direct travel option for passengers travelling
between eastern Uttar Pradesh and the national capital. The new service will operate under train numbers 15095 from Gorakhpur to Delhi and 15096 for the return journey. Amrit Bharat trains are designed to be an affordable, non-AC service, primarily featuring sleeper and general-class coaches to cater to a wider range of travellers.
Schedule and Timings
The inaugural service from Gorakhpur is scheduled to commence on Thursday, August 27, 2026. Train No. 15095 will depart from Gorakhpur Junction every Thursday at 10:45 PM and is scheduled to arrive at Delhi Junction at 12:50 PM the following day, taking approximately 14 hours for the journey. The return service, Train No. 15096, will begin from Delhi on Friday, August 28, 2026. It will depart from Delhi Junction every Friday at 2:10 PM and reach Gorakhpur at 6:30 AM the next morning.
Route and Key Stoppages
The train will connect several important towns in Uttar Pradesh directly to the national capital. The eight intermediate stops for the Amrit Bharat Express between Gorakhpur and Delhi are Khalilabad, Basti, Gonda Junction, Burhwal Junction, Sitapur Junction, Bareilly Junction, Moradabad Junction, and Ghaziabad Junction. This provides a crucial link for passengers from these regions, who now have a new direct service to and from Delhi.
What This Means for Travellers
The Delhi-Gorakhpur route is notoriously crowded, especially during festive seasons. The introduction of a new train, even a weekly one, is a welcome development that will help absorb some of the high passenger demand. The Amrit Bharat category of trains focuses on affordability, making it an accessible option for many. With a travel time of around 14 hours, it offers a competitive alternative to other trains and bus services on the route. The service primarily offers non-AC sleeper and general coaches, which is aimed at improving connectivity for passengers in mid-sized towns.
Booking and Fare Information
As an Amrit Bharat Express, the fares are expected to be budget-friendly, in line with the service's goal of providing affordable travel for the masses. Passengers are advised to book their tickets through the official Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website, the mobile app, or authorised railway ticket counters. Given the high demand on this route, it is advisable to book tickets well in advance, especially for travel during peak periods. Passengers should check the latest fare details and availability on the official IRCTC platform before planning their journey.
