A New Era of Connectivity
The Railway Board has officially approved the introduction of the Surat-Udaipur City Vande Bharat Express, a major infrastructure milestone for both cities. The new route provides a much-anticipated premium train service, directly connecting South Gujarat
with southern Rajasthan. This eight-coach train will operate six days a week and is expected to significantly cut down the journey time to approximately seven and a half hours. The introduction of this service, with train numbers 26903/26904, also means the discontinuation of the previous Udaipur City-Asarva Vande Bharat Express, effectively extending that route to Surat and offering a longer, more comprehensive connection.
Your Timetable and Stops
The train is scheduled to run six days a week, with no service on Tuesdays. Train number 26903 will depart from Surat at 6:10 AM and is scheduled to arrive in Udaipur City at 1:40 PM. For the return journey, train number 26904 will leave Udaipur City at 3:35 PM and reach Surat at 11:00 PM. Key commercial stops along this route include Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Maninagar, Asarva, Himmatnagar, Shamlaji Road, Dungarpur, and Zawar, providing crucial connectivity to several important towns between the two main cities.
The Onboard Experience
The Vande Bharat Express is India's first indigenously designed and manufactured semi-high-speed train, known for its modern passenger amenities. The trains are fully air-conditioned and feature two classes: AC Chair Car (CC) and a more premium AC Executive Class (EC). Executive Class coaches offer spacious, 2x2 configured seats that can rotate, while Chair Car coaches have a 3x2 seating arrangement. Passengers can expect a comfortable journey with ergonomic, reclining seats, mobile charging sockets for every passenger, and large windows for panoramic views. The trains are also equipped with a GPS-based passenger information system, onboard Wi-Fi for infotainment, automatic doors, and bio-vacuum toilets for enhanced hygiene.
Ticket Prices and Booking
While final fares will be confirmed upon the opening of reservations, prices are expected to be in line with other Vande Bharat services. Based on existing routes, the fare for an AC Chair Car ticket could be between ₹1,400 and ₹1,800, while the AC Executive Class may cost between ₹2,600 and ₹3,200. These prices are dynamic and can vary based on the final distance calculation and catering charges. Passengers will be able to book tickets through the official IRCTC website and mobile app once the service is formally entered into the reservation system, which is anticipated to happen soon.
Boosting Tourism and Business
This new high-speed link is poised to have a significant positive impact on both tourism and commerce. The reduced travel time of around 7.5 hours makes weekend getaways and business trips between Surat's commercial hub and Udaipur's popular tourist destinations far more convenient. The service is expected to be particularly popular among tourists and for destination weddings, a major draw for Udaipur. Improved connectivity often leads to economic growth by facilitating trade and making regions more attractive for investment. By linking the textile and diamond industries of Surat with the tourism and mineral-rich regions of southern Rajasthan, the Vande Bharat is set to become a vital economic corridor.
