A Welcome Initiative for Indian Travellers
In a significant move to boost tourism from one of its most important international markets, Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) has launched a pilot program that covers the cost of UAE entry visas for Indian tourists. This limited-time
scheme is designed to make the emirate more accessible and affordable for Indian families and solo travellers alike. The program, which runs from August 1 to October 31, 2026, aims to subsidise up to 20,000 visas, representing a substantial investment in attracting Indian visitors. This initiative effectively reduces the upfront cost of a trip, with the visa fee, typically around AED 285 (approximately ₹6,500), being waived for those who qualify under the new promotion.
Decoding the 'Free Visa' Offer
While the offer is being marketed as a 'free visa', it's important to understand the specifics. This is not a universal visa-free entry policy for all Indian passport holders. Instead, the cost of the visa is covered by DCT Abu Dhabi as part of a qualifying holiday package. To benefit from this, travellers cannot apply for the visa independently; the entire process is managed through participating travel partners who have been approved for the program. This ensures that the benefit is tied directly to holiday bookings that promote tourism within the emirate, encouraging visitors to stay and explore what Abu Dhabi has to offer.
Who Is Eligible for the Offer?
To take advantage of this promotional offer, Indian travellers must meet a few specific conditions. The key requirement is booking a holiday package through one of the designated travel partners. The package must include a stay of at least three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel, along with a return flight booking from India. This offer applies to all Indian passport holders who meet these booking conditions, with no limit on the number of free visas per family as long as each individual's booking qualifies. It is crucial for travellers to complete their trip by the program's end date of October 31, 2026, to be eligible.
How to Find and Book These Packages
The free visa is exclusively available through bookings made with 11 participating travel partners. This list includes well-known names in the Indian travel industry such as MakeMyTrip, Thomas Cook and SOTC, Kesari Tours, and Akbar Holidays, among others. Before finalising any travel plans, it's essential to confirm with your travel agent that they are part of this specific DCT Abu Dhabi promotion. When booking, ensure the package details explicitly state that the visa cost is waived. Standard visa application processing times will still apply, and all applications remain subject to the approval of UAE immigration authorities.
Beyond the Visa: Explore Abu Dhabi's Treasures
This initiative provides the perfect excuse to discover the cultural landmarks and modern marvels of the UAE's capital. From the breathtaking architectural beauty of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the BAPS Hindu Mandir to the world-class art at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the city is rich with cultural experiences. For thrill-seekers and families, the world-renowned theme parks on Yas Island, including Ferrari World and Warner Bros. World, offer endless entertainment. By making travel more affordable, Abu Dhabi hopes more Indian visitors will get to experience the diverse attractions that make the city a compelling holiday destination.
