A Landmark Launch
In a pre-dawn launch on September 4, 2026, ISRO's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F17) lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. The mission's primary objective was to place the EOS-05, a sophisticated Earth observation
satellite, into a sub-geosynchronous transfer orbit. The 51.7-metre-tall rocket, on its 19th flight, performed flawlessly, releasing the 2,367 kg satellite approximately 18 minutes after takeoff. This was a crucial mission for ISRO, marking its first successful launch of 2026 and reaffirming the reliability of the GSLV platform after a period of setbacks. The satellite will now use its own propulsion system to gradually raise its orbit to its final destination, about 36,000 kilometres above the Earth's surface.
EOS-05: India’s Unblinking Eye in the Sky
EOS-05 is not just another satellite; it's a game-changer for India's observation capabilities. It is the country’s first imaging satellite designed to operate from a geosynchronous orbit.
