Understanding the Free Visa Initiative
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a pilot programme that covers the entire cost of a UAE entry visa for eligible Indian tourists. This initiative is designed to make visiting the emirate simpler and more budget-friendly.
It is not a universal visa-free travel scheme for all Indian citizens; rather, it is a targeted promotion linked to specific holiday bookings. The programme is set to run for a three-month period, for travel between August 1 and October 31, 2026. DCT Abu Dhabi has announced it will support up to 20,000 visas during this initial phase, so availability is limited.
Who is Eligible for the Offer?
To qualify for the complimentary visa, travellers must meet a clear set of requirements. The offer is available exclusively to Indian passport holders whose journey originates in India. The core of the offer is tied to a packaged holiday. A flight-only or hotel-only booking will not qualify for the visa waiver. The booking must be made as a package through a participating travel partner or an approved Online Travel Agency (OTA). While no specific age restrictions have been officially mentioned for this particular promotion, it is intended for tourists booking a holiday package.
Key Booking Conditions
The most important condition is booking a qualifying holiday package. This package must include two essential components. First, a hotel stay of at least three consecutive nights in Abu Dhabi is mandatory. Stays in other emirates, such as Dubai, do not qualify for this specific Abu Dhabi-led initiative. Second, the package must include a return flight from India. Both the departure and return flights must be to and from India. Since the offer is valid for travel until October 31, 2026, the trip itself must take place within this window, not just the booking. Travellers are advised to confirm the offer's availability with their travel agent before finalising payment.
How to Apply and Get the Visa
The process is streamlined through travel providers and not handled by individual travellers directly. You cannot apply for the visa subsidy on your own. The first step is to find a participating travel agency or OTA that is part of this DCT Abu Dhabi programme, such as Akbar Travels. Once you book a qualifying package (minimum three nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel plus return flights), you submit your travel documents to the agency. The travel partner then processes the visa on your behalf through a DCT-appointed Destination Management Company (DMC), with DCT Abu Dhabi covering the cost directly. Alternatively, if the agency uses its own DMC, DCT Abu Dhabi will reimburse the visa fee, which is set at AED 285.
