Understanding the New Visa Offer
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has introduced a pilot program that covers the full cost of a UAE entry visa for eligible Indian tourists. This is not a blanket visa-free travel policy but a targeted promotion where DCT Abu Dhabi pays
the visa fee on behalf of the traveller. The initiative is designed to make the emirate a more attractive and affordable destination for one of its most important international tourism markets. The program is valid for a limited time and has a cap on the number of visas it will cover, so planning ahead is crucial.
Who is Eligible for the Waiver?
To qualify for the complimentary visa, travellers must meet a specific set of criteria. Firstly, you must be an Indian passport holder whose journey originates from India. The core requirement is booking a holiday package that includes a minimum of three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel and a return flight from India. Crucially, this package must be booked through a participating travel partner or an approved online travel agency (OTA), such as MakeMyTrip or Akbar Travels. Travellers cannot apply for the visa independently and expect the fee to be waived; the entire process must be handled by the registered travel intermediary as part of the package booking.
How Much Can You Actually Save?
The standard fee for a UAE entry visa, which this program covers, is approximately AED 285 (around $77). By taking advantage of this offer, a family of four could save over AED 1,100 on visa fees alone, a significant reduction in the overall cost of the trip. This pilot program is initially set to support up to 20,000 visas, representing a total subsidy of about $1.5 million from DCT Abu Dhabi. This makes it a substantial incentive for those considering a late summer or autumn getaway to the UAE's capital.
How to Book and Avail the Offer
Securing the visa fee waiver is straightforward but must be done correctly. The first step is to find a travel agency or OTA that is a participating partner in this DCT Abu Dhabi initiative. When booking, you must select a package that explicitly includes a stay of three or more consecutive nights in Abu Dhabi and return airfare from India. Once you book the qualifying package and submit the necessary documents, the travel partner will handle the visa processing. They will either process it through a DCT-appointed company where the fee is paid directly, or get reimbursed by DCT Abu Dhabi. The key is that the traveller never pays the visa fee upfront for these specific packages.
Key Dates and Deadlines to Remember
This attractive offer is a pilot program with a defined window. It is valid for travel that takes place between August 1, 2026, and October 31, 2026. It's important to note that these dates refer to the actual travel period, not just the booking window. As the program is limited to the first 20,000 eligible visas, availability may run out before the October 31 deadline. Travellers are advised to confirm with their travel agent that the offer is still available before finalising their plans, especially when booking closer to the end date.
