The Delhi-Gorakhpur corridor is one of the most significant and congested arteries in the Indian Railways network, especially during festive seasons like Holi, Diwali, and Chhath Puja. For years, securing a confirmed ticket has been a source of immense
stress for migrant workers and families travelling to Eastern Uttar Pradesh. To address this, a special train service has been regularised into the Amrit Bharat Express, offering a dedicated weekly connection. This service, Train No. 15095/15096, aims to ease the passenger load by providing a reliable and modern travel option specifically for this heavily trafficked route. It’s a targeted intervention designed to serve the common person, making the journey home for festivals less of an ordeal.
What Makes Amrit Bharat Different?
The Amrit Bharat Express is not just another express train; it's engineered for speed and efficiency. The key innovation is its 'push-pull' technology, featuring a locomotive at both the front and rear. This configuration allows the train to accelerate and decelerate much faster, significantly reducing travel time. The train is designed to run at a maximum speed of 130 km/h. The coaches are modern LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) types, known for their enhanced safety and comfort. For a smoother, jerk-free ride, the train uses semi-automatic couplers, an upgrade from even standard LHB coaches. These technological enhancements are aimed at providing a superior travel experience without the premium price tag of Vande Bharat trains.
Onboard Amenities and Passenger Comfort
Inside, the Amrit Bharat Express offers a significant upgrade over conventional non-AC coaches. The train is composed entirely of non-AC Sleeper and General Second Class coaches, designed with the long-distance budget traveller in mind. Passengers will find comfortable, ergonomically designed seats and berths, along with foldable snack tables and bottle holders. Every passenger has access to mobile charging sockets, including both USB Type-A and Type-C ports. The train features fully sealed gangways for easy and safe movement between coaches, modern bio-toilets with an electro-pneumatic flushing system, and improved LED lighting. Safety is also a priority, with CCTV cameras in all coaches and aerosol-based fire suppression systems in toilets and electrical cubicles.
Route, Schedule, and Timings
The Gorakhpur-Delhi Amrit Bharat Express has been regularised to run on a weekly schedule. Train No. 15095 departs from Gorakhpur every Thursday at 10:45 PM and is scheduled to arrive at Delhi Junction at 12:50 PM the next day. The return service, Train No. 15096, departs from Delhi Junction every Friday at 2:10 PM, reaching Gorakhpur at 6:30 AM on Saturday morning. The train covers the distance of approximately 780 km in about 14 hours. Key stoppages along the route include Khalilabad, Basti, Gonda, Sitapur, Bareilly, and Moradabad, improving connectivity for passengers from several towns in Uttar Pradesh.
Understanding the Fare and Booking
True to its objective of serving the common traveller, the Amrit Bharat Express is positioned as an affordable service. Fares are structured to be about 15-17% higher than standard mail or express trains, which accounts for the faster speed and improved amenities. Crucially, the train does not use dynamic or 'flexi-fare' pricing, meaning ticket costs remain stable and predictable even during peak demand. Bookings can be made through the IRCTC website and app, as well as at station counters. One important rule to note is that these trains do not have a Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) quota; passengers will either get a confirmed berth or remain on the waiting list.
