Why the Disruption Is Happening
Indian Railways is undertaking a critical infrastructure upgrade on one of the nation's key rail arteries. The disruption is necessary to facilitate yard remodelling and connect a new, third railway line between Bina station (under West Central Railway)
and Agasod station (under North Central Railway). This work, which includes complex pre-non-interlocking and non-interlocking phases scheduled until October 15, is essential for increasing the network's capacity. Once complete, the project is expected to improve the handling of train movements, reduce congestion, and enhance the overall punctuality and reliability of services on this busy corridor. While causing short-term inconvenience, this upgrade is a long-term investment in a more efficient railway network.
Key Affected Services: All Are Diversions
According to the latest announcements from West Central Railway, the 17 services mentioned will be operated on diverted routes on specific dates throughout the engineering block. Unlike some earlier phases of the project which saw outright cancellations, this specific period in October focuses primarily on rerouting major express trains. Passengers with bookings on these services will still travel, but via a different route, which may involve different stations and slightly adjusted timings. The diversions will primarily re-route trains via junctions like Jabalpur, Itarsi, Katni South, Maksi, Guna, and Kota. It is crucial for passengers to verify the updated route for their specific train.
Rewanchal, Jodhpur-Bhopal, and Veraval-Jabalpur Expresses
Several popular services are on the diversion list. The Rewanchal Express services between Rewa and Rani Kamalapati (12185/12186) will be diverted via Katni, Jabalpur, and Itarsi from October 8 to 14. Similarly, the Rewa-Dr Ambedkar Nagar Tri-Weekly Express (11703/11704) will run via Bina Malkhedi, Guna, and Maksi on select dates between October 8 and 14. The Bhopal-Jodhpur Express (14814) and its return service (14813) will be diverted via Sant Hirdaram Nagar, Maksi, Nagda, and Kota for the first half of October. Additionally, the Jabalpur-Veraval Express (11466) and its return service (11465) will be rerouted via the Itarsi-Bhopal section on specific dates.
Other Major Long-Distance Trains on Altered Routes
The disruptions extend to several other trains. The Jabalpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Gondwana Express (22181) will be diverted via Katni and Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi on October 8. The Bhopal-Dhanbad Tri-Weekly Express (11631/11632) is scheduled for diversion via Itarsi, Jabalpur, and Katni South on October 9, 12, and 15. The weekly Bhopal-Chopan Express (11633/11634) will follow a similar diversion via Itarsi and Jabalpur on October 11 and 12, respectively. Passengers on these services will bypass their usual route through the Bina area, so checking for skipped stations is important.
Advice for Affected Passengers
Indian Railways has strongly advised all passengers scheduled to travel on these routes during October to re-verify their train's status before starting their journey. This can be done through the official National Train Enquiry System (NTES) website or mobile app, or other authorised railway information channels. Given the route changes, it is essential to check for any alterations to stoppage stations and arrival/departure times. Passengers who booked tickets for trains that are now cancelled from previous phases or significantly altered should be aware of the railway's refund policies. For diverted trains, passengers should plan for potential changes in total travel time and ensure they are aware of the new list of stations their train will be passing through.
