Companies should also conduct vendor due diligence to ensure third-party AI platforms meet their security standards.
An Employee's Guide to AI Data Safety
Employees are not powerless in this new era. The DPDP Act grants individuals rights regarding their personal data, even in an employment context. The most critical rule is to never input sensitive or confidential information—whether personal PII or company secrets—into a public or unapproved AI tool. Before using any new AI, employees should understand their company's policy and use only approved platforms. It is also wise to be mindful of the permissions granted to AI applications on work devices, revoking any that are not essential. If you are unsure about the data collection practices of a tool your employer requires you to use, you have the right to ask for clarification from your manager or the designated Data Protection Officer.
