Unlike standard SMS messages that can clog networks during a crisis, this new system uses Cell Broadcast technology. This allows a single message to be sent simultaneously to every active mobile phone within a specific geographic area—from a few city blocks to an entire district—without needing an internet connection or any special app. This creates a powerful safety net, capable of delivering alerts on everything from approaching cyclones to sudden public safety issues in multiple languages.
