The New Deal Unpacked
Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a pilot program specifically for Indian travellers to make visiting the emirate more accessible. The deal isn't a loan or a 'pay later' scheme, but something more direct: DCT Abu Dhabi is covering
the complete cost of the UAE entry visa for eligible tourists. This initiative aims to lower the initial financial barrier for one of Abu Dhabi's most important tourism markets. The program is active for a limited time, running from August 1 to October 31, 2026, and is designed to make the destination more appealing for autumn travel.
How Much You Can Save
The primary saving comes from the UAE entry visa fee, which normally costs around AED 285, or approximately $77 USD, per person. While this might seem like a modest amount for a solo traveller, the savings become substantial for families and larger groups. For a family of four, this deal effectively cuts nearly AED 1,140 from the upfront cost of the trip before flights and hotels are even booked. This reduction in mandatory fees means more of your budget can be allocated to experiences, dining, or accommodation during your stay in Abu Dhabi. The deal is capped at an initial 20,000 visas, so it is a first-come, first-served style of offer.
Checking Your Eligibility
This offer is not a blanket waiver and comes with specific conditions. To qualify, you must meet all the following criteria: 1. You must be an Indian passport holder departing from India for your trip. 2. The trip must be booked as a package through a participating travel partner or online travel agency. You cannot apply for the visa cost waiver independently. 3. The travel package must include a minimum stay of three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel. 4. The booking must also include a return flight from India. Essentially, the program is designed to encourage planned holidays rather than brief stopovers.
How to Secure the Offer
The process for availing this benefit is handled entirely through travel providers. When planning your trip, the most important step is to book through a travel agency or online platform that is participating in the DCT Abu Dhabi programme. You should explicitly ask your travel agent if they are part of this initiative. When you book a qualifying package, the travel partner will handle the visa process, and the cost will either be paid directly by DCT Abu Dhabi upfront or reimbursed to the agent. For you, the traveller, the result is simply a package price that doesn't include the visa fee. Always confirm with your provider that the visa cost is covered before finalising your payment.
Why This Matters for Indian Travellers
This initiative underscores the strong relationship between the UAE and India. With Indians forming the largest expatriate community in the UAE, the connection is already deep. This programme is a strategic move to further boost tourism from a key market by making travel more convenient and budget-friendly. By removing the visa fee, Abu Dhabi hopes to encourage more Indian tourists to choose the emirate for a longer stay, moving beyond its status as just a transit hub. It allows travellers to spend more time exploring the city’s rich cultural attractions, world-class entertainment, and luxurious hospitality, thereby strengthening tourism ties.
