Proficiency in programming languages like Python, C++, and MATLAB is crucial, as they are used for everything from flight software to data analysis. Familiarity with design and simulation software such as CAD/CAM is essential for engineers. As satellites generate vast amounts of data, skills in data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning are becoming highly sought after for applications in remote sensing, weather forecasting, and more. Understanding orbital mechanics, propulsion systems, and RF communication principles are also core competencies for many roles. The growing use of robotics in space also opens doors for those with expertise in autonomous systems.

ISRO offers structured internship and project trainee schemes at its various centres like VSSC, URSC, and SAC, although these are often unpaid. Don't just focus on ISRO; the burgeoning private startups are aggressively hiring interns and offer a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
