According to railway authorities, the work is designed to enhance safety, increase operational efficiency, and accommodate rising rail traffic in the future, ultimately improving punctuality and reliability on these busy routes.
The 17 Diverted Train Services
According to West Central Railway, 17 long-distance express trains will be rerouted on specific dates throughout October 2026. Passengers should carefully check their train number and journey date. The affected services include trains connecting major destinations across Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and beyond. Some of the key diversions are as follows: Train Nos. 14813/14814 (Jodhpur-Bhopal Express) will run via an alternate route through Sant Hirdaram Nagar, Maksi, Nagda, and Kota on most days from October 1 to 15. The Rewanchal Express (Train Nos. 12185/12186) between Rani Kamalapati and Rewa will be diverted via Itarsi and Jabalpur from October 8 to 14. Similarly, the Rewa-Dr Ambedkar Nagar Tri-Weekly Express (11703/11704) will take a different path via Guna and Maksi on October 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, and 14. Other trains on the list include the Veraval-Jabalpur Express, Gondwana Express, and several other services passing through the Bina-Agasod section.

For those who have booked tickets, IRCTC often sends SMS alerts to the registered mobile number if a train is cancelled or significantly altered. Always check for the latest updates close to your departure time, as schedules can change.
Understanding Your Options as a Passenger
If your journey is affected, it's important to know your rights. A 'diverted' train means it will still run but will take a different route, potentially skipping your boarding or destination station. If the train is cancelled outright, passengers who booked e-tickets via the IRCTC website or app will receive an automatic full refund to their original payment source. There is no need to file a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) in this case. For tickets bought at a physical counter, you can claim a full refund from a station counter. If your train is delayed by more than three hours and you decide not to travel, you are also entitled to a full refund. You can file a TDR for this, either online or at the station, depending on how you booked.
