The Free Visa Offer Explained
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a pilot programme that covers the full cost of a UAE entry visa for eligible travellers. This is not a blanket visa-waiver for all tourists, but a targeted subsidy where the government
reimburses or directly pays the visa fee, saving travellers approximately Dh285 ($77) per person. The initiative is designed to reduce the upfront cost of planning a holiday in the capital. The programme is set to run from August 1 to October 31, 2026, with an initial capacity to support up to 20,000 visas during this period.
Who Is Eligible for the Deal?
This specific initiative is exclusively for Indian passport holders travelling from India. However, simply being an Indian citizen is not enough to qualify. To be eligible, travellers must book a comprehensive holiday package to Abu Dhabi. This package must include a return flight from India and a hotel stay of at least three consecutive nights in Abu Dhabi. The booking must be made through a participating travel partner or an approved online travel agency. Independent travellers who book flights and hotels separately or who plan a shorter stay will not be eligible for the free visa offer.
How to Secure Your Free Visa
Travellers cannot apply for this free visa directly through government channels. The entire process is managed by the travel agencies and tour operators participating in the scheme. When an eligible package is booked, the travel partner handles the visa application process. DCT Abu Dhabi has two ways of covering the cost: either by paying appointed destination management companies (DMCs) directly or by reimbursing travel agencies that use their own partners for the full visa fee. For the traveller, the process is streamlined—the visa cost is simply removed from their package price, making the booking more affordable from the outset.
Why Abu Dhabi Is Making This Push
This visa initiative is a strategic part of Abu Dhabi's broader goal to significantly boost its tourism sector. India is one of the most important international markets for the emirate, and this programme aims to strengthen its appeal and accessibility for Indian visitors. By subsidising visa costs, Abu Dhabi is encouraging longer stays, which in turn boosts hotel occupancy rates and spending in the local economy. The move aligns with Abu Dhabi's Tourism Strategy 2030, which has ambitious targets of attracting nearly 40 million visitors annually and generating AED 90 billion in tourism-related economic activity. This is one of several initiatives designed to enhance air connectivity and forge stronger partnerships with the global travel trade.
Making the Most of Your Abu Dhabi Trip
With the visa cost covered, visitors have more to spend on experiences. A three-day itinerary allows ample time to explore the emirate's landmark attractions. A visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, an architectural marvel, is a must-do. For art and culture enthusiasts, the Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island offers a world-class collection of art and artefacts. Thrill-seekers can head to Yas Island, home to Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, and Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi. For a taste of nature and heritage, a desert safari offers dune bashing, camel rides, and a traditional Bedouin-style dinner under the stars, providing a comprehensive and memorable Arabian experience.
