Why The Disruptions Are Happening
The temporary inconvenience is part of a major push to upgrade railway infrastructure. According to West Central Railway, the primary reason for these changes is the ongoing yard remodelling at the Bina and Agasod stations. This work is crucial for connecting
a new third railway line between the two stations, a project aimed at increasing capacity and ensuring safer, more efficient train operations in the long run. Pre-non-interlocking and non-interlocking work is scheduled in phases through October 15, 2026, necessitating these adjustments to the train schedule. These upgrades are part of a larger strategy to ease congestion on the busy Delhi-Chennai and Delhi-Howrah corridors.
Key Trains on Diverted Routes
A total of 17 long-distance services will operate on alternative routes on specific dates in October. Passengers travelling to or from Bhopal, Rewa, and Jabalpur will be most affected. For instance, the Rewanchal Express (Train Nos. 12185/12186) between Rani Kamalapati (Bhopal) and Rewa will be diverted via Itarsi and Jabalpur from October 8 to 14. Similarly, the Rewa-Dr Ambedkar Nagar Tri-Weekly Express (11703/11704) will run via an alternate route including Guna and Maksi on several dates between October 8 and 14. Travellers on the Bhopal-Jodhpur Express (14814/14813) will also face diversions via Sant Hirdaram Nagar, Maksi, and Kota for the first half of October. Other services, like the Veraval-Jabalpur weekly express (11465/11466), will be rerouted through the Bhopal-Itarsi line on select dates.
Bhopal Division and Connecting Lines
Several trains originating from or passing through Bhopal are being rerouted to accommodate the infrastructure work. The Bhopal-Singrauli and Bhopal-Chopan expresses will be diverted via Itarsi, Jabalpur, and Katni South on multiple dates in October. The Howrah-Bhopal Weekly Express (13025/13026) is another service that will be redirected through the New Katni Junction, Jabalpur, and Itarsi route on October 12 and 14. These changes are not happening in isolation; they are part of a broader effort to add third and fourth lines along the congested Itarsi-Bhopal-Bina section to improve punctuality and allow for more train services in the future.
Cancellations and Short-Terminations
In addition to diversions, some services have been fully cancelled or will be short-terminated. The Bhopal-Gwalior Intercity Express (12197/12198) will be cancelled from October 1 to October 15. Several MEMU passenger trains, including the Bina-Katni Murwara service (61619/61620), will also be cancelled for a significant portion of the period from late September to mid-October. Passengers should also note that some trains will terminate before their final destination. For example, the Katni-Bina MEMU (11602) will terminate at Khurai instead of Bina on most days between September 29 and October 15. Even the popular New Delhi-Rani Kamalapati Shatabdi Express is scheduled to be short-terminated on October 15.
