The New Flight: What You Need to Know
Alliance Air has launched the first-ever direct flight service between Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) and the new NAMO Airport in Daman (NMB). This landmark route, part of the UDAN regional connectivity scheme, slashes the previous
travel time, which often involved a 15-hour train ride or a flight to Surat followed by a long road journey. The direct flight itself has a duration of approximately two hours and fifty minutes, making Daman an accessible weekend getaway for Delhiites. The service currently operates twice a week.
Stage 1: Getting to Delhi Airport
Your door-to-door journey begins with the trip to Delhi's airport. The time this takes can vary wildly depending on your location in the National Capital Region (NCR), the time of day, and your mode of transport. If you live near the Airport Express Metro line, you can reach the airport from New Delhi station in as little as 25 minutes. However, for most residents travelling by cab or private car during morning hours, it is wise to budget between 60 and 90 minutes to account for traffic.
Stage 2: Navigating the Airport
For domestic travel, the standard recommendation is to arrive at the airport at least two hours before your scheduled departure. Given that the flight to Daman has an early morning departure, this window is crucial. These two hours allow for a comfortable buffer to complete check-in, drop off any baggage, and clear security, which can have variable wait times. Services like web check-in can expedite the process, but arriving early remains the safest strategy to avoid any last-minute stress.
Stage 3: The Flight to Daman
Once you are past security, you can relax before boarding. The actual flight from Delhi to Daman takes just under three hours. This non-stop leg is where you see the most significant time saving, bypassing the cumbersome train journeys or multi-modal trips of the past. It transforms the travel experience from an exhausting full-day affair into a short, comfortable hop, allowing you to arrive in Daman feeling fresh and ready to explore.
Stage 4: Arrival and Exit in Daman
Upon landing at NAMO Airport in Daman, the process is typically swift. As a smaller regional airport, it does not face the same congestion as major metropolitan hubs. Deplaning is quick, and if you have checked luggage, the wait at the baggage carousel is generally short. You can realistically expect to be out of the airport and ready for the final leg of your journey within 20 to 30 minutes of landing.
Stage 5: Reaching Your Final Destination
Daman's airport is conveniently located close to the main town areas. A taxi ride from the airport to popular spots in Moti Daman or Nani Daman, or to one of the beachfront resorts, will typically take around 15 to 20 minutes, depending on your exact destination and local traffic. This final, short transfer completes your journey.
The Total Time: A Realistic Estimate
So, what is the grand total for your door-to-door travel time? Adding up the stages provides a clear picture. Budgeting 1.5 hours to reach Delhi airport, 2 hours for airport formalities, 3 hours for the flight, 30 minutes for exiting Daman airport, and 20 minutes for the final taxi ride brings the total to approximately 7 hours and 20 minutes. This calculation confirms that the new flight reduces the total travel time by at least 10 hours, making a trip to Daman's beaches and historic forts more practical than ever before.
