They check digital object identifiers (DOIs) and URLs to ensure they lead to the correct source, flagging any that are broken or mismatched. This process helps researchers identify and remove fabricated citations before they can compromise their work.

For the thousands of postgraduate students across India, these tools offer a crucial advantage. The pressure to publish in a competitive academic environment is immense. AI can speed up the initial stages of research, but the risk of accidentally incorporating a hallucinated reference is high.
