1. Conversational AI with Ask DISHA 2.0
The introduction of Ask DISHA 2.0 marks a significant leap from a simple FAQ chatbot to a full-fledged travel assistant. Standing for "Digital Interaction to Seek Help Anytime," this upgraded AI can now handle end-to-end travel queries and bookings. Users
can interact with it using voice or text in English, Hindi, and even Hinglish. The most significant change is its ability to book tickets conversationally without requiring you to remember your IRCTC password, relying instead on a secure OTP for authentication. Beyond booking, Ask DISHA 2.0 can help you cancel tickets, check your PNR status, track refund requests, and even order food for your journey. This makes the process feel less like filling out a form and more like having a conversation, drastically reducing the effort needed for common tasks.
2. A Cleaner and Faster User Interface
One of the most welcome changes is a complete redesign of the user interface, aimed at reducing clutter and speeding up the booking process. The new portal promises to eliminate many of the distractions that plagued the old site, such as excessive pop-ups and flashing advertisements that would often interrupt a booking. A major point of frustration for users—repeated CAPTCHA verifications—has also been reduced, which is particularly beneficial during the high-stakes rush of Tatkal bookings. The platform's overall capacity has been massively upgraded, with the system now built to handle over 1.5 lakh bookings per minute. This increased capacity, combined with a cleaner layout and faster page loading, aims to make the experience significantly smoother and less prone to errors.
3. Simplified Seat Availability and Selection
Finding an available seat has become much more straightforward. Previously, users had to search for seat availability class by class, a tedious process of toggling between Sleeper, 3AC, 2AC, and so on. The upgraded website introduces a unified seat availability view, displaying the status across all classes on a single screen. This small but powerful change allows passengers to compare all their options at a glance and make a quicker decision. Furthermore, the new system gives users more control by allowing them to select their preferred berths during booking, much like choosing a seat in a movie theatre. For added planning flexibility, a new fare calendar lets you compare ticket prices across different dates, helping you find cheaper travel options if your schedule is flexible.
4. AI-Powered Waitlist Prediction
The uncertainty of a waitlisted ticket is a familiar anxiety for Indian train travellers. To address this, IRCTC has integrated an AI-powered prediction tool that estimates the probability of a waitlisted ticket getting confirmed. The system analyzes historical booking and cancellation trends, seasonal demand, and other patterns to generate a confirmation probability percentage. While earlier prediction models had limited accuracy, the new machine learning algorithms have significantly improved the reliability of these forecasts. This feature is available both at the time of booking a waitlisted ticket and when checking your PNR status later. It empowers passengers with data-driven insights, helping them decide whether to book a waitlisted ticket or look for alternative travel plans.
5. Streamlined and Secure iPay Gateway
Payment failures and delayed refunds have long been a pain point. With the launch of its own payment aggregator, IRCTC iPay, the platform gains more control over the transaction process. This reduces reliance on third-party gateways and helps lower the chances of payment failures, as IRCTC can now communicate directly with banks. A key feature within iPay is 'Autopay', which is especially useful for waitlisted tickets. When you use this feature, the fare is blocked in your account but is only debited if the ticket gets confirmed. If the ticket remains on the waitlist after chart preparation, the blocked amount is released instantly, eliminating the long wait for refunds and freeing up your funds for other bookings.
