Beyond load size, airflow is your greatest ally. Even a slightly open window can make a huge difference, allowing the moist indoor air to escape and be replaced by drier outdoor air. Pointing a fan at your drying rack keeps air moving across the surface of the clothes, whisking away the layer of humid air that forms around them and dramatically speeding up evaporation. Proper spacing on the rack is also crucial; give each item enough breathing room so air can circulate freely on all sides. Hanging items on hangers can also help improve airflow compared to draping them over a line.

To further improve your indoor drying game, an extra spin cycle at the end of your wash can mechanically remove a surprising amount of water, giving you a head start. When hanging, choose the warmest, most ventilated room in your home. Since warm air rises, hanging laundry in a stairwell can also be an effective strategy in a multi-level home. If you frequently dry clothes indoors, investing in a dehumidifier is a game-changer. A dehumidifier actively pulls moisture from the air, keeping humidity levels below the 60% threshold where mould and dust mites thrive. Placing it near your drying rack will significantly shorten drying times and keep the air healthy.
