'Dewi' was chosen for its deep cultural resonance; it means 'goddess' in Indonesian and derives from the Sanskrit word 'Devi', perfectly symbolizing the shared heritage between the two nations. The launch was timed to coincide with the auspicious occasion of Navaratri and Durga Puja, adding a layer of cultural significance to this technological leap.
What Information Can Dewi Provide?
Think of Dewi as a one-stop digital information desk. The AI avatar is programmed to handle queries on five key areas: consular services, travel and tourism, scholarship opportunities, business and investment, and Indian culture. This means anyone—from an Indian national in Indonesia needing passport information to an Indonesian student interested in studying in India—can get quick updates. The service aims to cut through the noise and deliver clear, relevant details on everything from visa processes to cultural events, making the embassy's resources more readily available to the public.

This initiative directly addresses a common frustration: the difficulty of obtaining timely and accurate information from official sources. Embassies receive a high volume of routine questions, which can lead to delays. By deploying an AI avatar like Dewi, the embassy can automate responses to frequently asked questions.
