1. Speedy & Savoury Paneer Bhurji
Paneer Bhurji, a scramble made from Indian cottage cheese, is a powerhouse of protein, perfect for kickstarting your day. A single serving can pack between 18-20 grams of protein, keeping you full and focused. The key to making it in under 10 minutes
is having your ingredients ready. Finely chop a small onion and tomato beforehand. To begin, heat a teaspoon of oil or ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, sauté the onion for two minutes until translucent. Add the chopped tomato, along with a pinch of turmeric and red chili powder, and cook for another minute until the tomatoes soften. Now, add 100 grams of crumbled paneer, season with salt, and stir for 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through and well combined. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot with a slice of whole-wheat toast for a complete meal.
2. Instant Oats & Besan Chilla
A 'chilla' is a savoury Indian pancake that is both healthy and incredibly versatile. By combining the fibre of oats with the protein from besan (gram flour), you get a balanced meal that supports sustained energy. For a 10-minute version, use quick-cooking oats or oat flour. In a bowl, mix half a cup of besan with a quarter cup of instant oats. Add finely chopped vegetables like onions, capsicum, and coriander. Pour in water gradually, whisking to form a smooth, pourable batter, similar to a pancake mix. Season with salt, turmeric, and a pinch of ajwain (carom seeds). Heat a non-stick tawa or pan and lightly grease it. Pour a ladleful of the batter and spread it into a thin circle. Cook for 2-3 minutes on medium heat until the edges lift and the surface looks cooked. Flip and cook the other side until golden brown. Each chilla can provide around 8-10 grams of protein and is fantastic served with mint chutney or a simple bowl of curd.
3. No-Cook Protein-Packed Chana Chaat
When you have absolutely no time to cook, a 'chaat' is the perfect solution. This breakfast requires zero cooking if you use canned or pre-boiled chickpeas (chana). It's a vibrant, tangy bowl full of protein and fibre. In a large bowl, add one cup of boiled chickpeas. To this, add half a chopped onion, one chopped tomato, and a handful of fresh coriander. For that classic chaat flavour, sprinkle a teaspoon of chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, and salt to taste. Squeeze the juice of half a lemon and mix everything together. To boost the protein and add a delightful crunch, you can also add a quarter cup of sprouted moong beans. If you have them on hand, a few pomegranate seeds can add a burst of sweetness. This refreshing chaat is ready in less than five minutes and provides a satisfying serving of plant-based protein, with a typical bowl offering 12-15 grams.
Tips for a 10-Minute Morning
Achieving these quick cooking times is all about preparation. Spend a few minutes the night before or on the weekend to chop vegetables like onions, tomatoes, and capsicum and store them in an airtight container in the fridge. For the chana chaat, you can boil a larger batch of chickpeas and store them for a few days. Similarly, moong sprouts can be prepared in advance. Having these components ready to go means your assembly or cooking time in the morning is drastically reduced, making a healthy, protein-rich breakfast a realistic daily habit instead of a weekend luxury.
